About the Teachers

Janelle  Doyle (Painting Class) is a figurative painter and licensed K-12 visual arts teacher. Her degrees include a Master of Arts degree in Art Education and a Baccalaureate degree in Art (drawing and painting) and Art History. She worked in the education division at the Science Museum of Minnesota and has taught community-based arts programs with Walker Art Center, Saint Paul Public Schools, and East Side Arts Council. She teaches currently at Saint Thomas Academy, a college preparatory school in suburban Saint Paul. Her specialty is using the arts of historical and contemporary world cultures to create authentic arts experiences. She is the author of "Paper Arts Around the World", a curriculum for multicultural arts education that requires only scissors, paper, and pencils.

Katie Sherman (Pottery Class) earned a BFA in Fine Art and is a licensed Art Teacher.  She has taught elementary school as well as college level courses.  She teaches a range of artistic media from ceramics to painting to fiber arts.  She spent three teaching at Spanish Immersion Schools in the Minneapolis Public School District, including a year as a full-time art teacher.  Her pieces have been displayed and sold across the country, including many local art shows.  Katie loves working with children because they are her best teachers: “They lack the self-consciousness of adulthood—their creativity is still unbridled and free.” www.raindesigns.etsy.com
